What was involved?
There were three areas of the house we wanted work done on; the side, the conservatory area at the back and the front lawn. We wanted a design that would tie all three areas together. It was a fairly big job and an extensive bit of work.
Paul also put some steps leading up to the front door of the house. My mother-in-law has glaucoma so we widened the steps and put a red perimeter around it to make it easier to see. If it was one colour she could miss a step and fall.
It's been a fabulous success and we’re delighted with it. The colours in the stone also suits the different seasons. In addition to the front steps, the back garden was redesigned, a drainage system was installed and an Indian sandstone patio was built. Underground lighting was put in as well.
How did you choose Garden Transformation?
I’ve known Paul from years back. He did some work for my sister that I was very impressed with, so when I had this project, I gave him a call. I have several properties and I've had some terrible work done over the years. I trusted Paul would do a good job and he did.
Had you definite ideas in mind before you talked to Paul White?
I had ideas in my head but Paul helped to give it shape with his design. Sometimes practicalities dictate that certain things won't work but in the end a bit of common sense got it done. Between the two of us we figured it out.
Did Paul introduce new ideas?
It was a bit of both. I told Paul of my mother-in-law's sight problem. Paul came up with the idea of adding a coloured perimeter to the steps to make it easier to see. I chose the colour red.
How did the project run?
It was a very good experience for me and one of the best jobs I've had done in a good while.
What was the biggest benefit to you of using Garden Transformation?
Paul's design ideas. He put in a curvy design that was different to my original symmetrical plan. Also the colour scheme of the whole house has been changed in a nice way because of the Indian sandstone patio. The project has been a real success and a huge cost savings as well. Previously I was having drainage problems, puddles and mould in the back garden. Paul put in some pebble stones that only need to be irritated now and then to solve the problem. It's really cut down on my maintenance.
What's your favourite part now?
My favourite part of the garden is the smile on my wife's face when she sees it.
Would you recommend Garden Transformation to others?
I would recommend Paul to anybody. As a matter of fact, I'm going to have Paul back to do some additional work for me. We have plans to extend onto the other end of the garden and add a couple of scenic areas to it.
Any tips for other people?
It's just so important that if you're getting work done to communicate. Write everything down so that there are no misunderstandings, even the stuff that seems obvious. It's amazing how people perceive things. What I see and understand can be different than what somebody else perceives it to be.
